War & Conflict

This section aims to provide community members and health care providers with the resources and tools necessary to provide high-quality care to migrants who have experienced war and conflict.

The way we treat refugees says a lot about who we are as a society and as human beings.
— David Morrissey

War and conflict can have devastating effects on the health of migrants, leaving them vulnerable to a wide range of physical and mental health conditions. Fleeing violence, persecution, and war, migrants often face significant challenges related to access to basic healthcare services such as clean water, sanitation, and medical care. These challenges can lead to the development of infectious diseases, malnutrition, and other physical health issues. In addition, the trauma of experiencing violence and displacement can result in mental health conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

To provide effective care to this patient population, we must be equipped to address the diverse health challenges that migrants face. This includes developing individualized care plans, providing preventative services, and delivering comprehensive mental health care. Providers must also be prepared to work with interpreters and local organizations to ensure their patients are able to engage meaningfully in health care interactions and are receiving care that addresses their needs both in the hospital and community.

This section aims to provide community members and health care providers with the resources and tools necessary to provide high-quality care to migrants who have experienced war and conflict. By increasing awareness and understanding of these issues, we can help ensure that this patient population receives the care and support they need to maintain their well-being.
